The Odyssey to Locate the Supreme Court's Opinion Announcement Audio Begins Anew

In February, after months of back and forth with the Supreme Court and the National Archives, Fix the Court’s Emma Donahue was able to locate audio files of the prior term’s opinion announcements (OT24).

Unlike oral argument audio, the Court doesn’t livestream opinion announcements, which is a shame — and is not defensible.

In any event, we’re setting out to do this again this year — that is, locate the opinion announcement audio from OT25.

What we know right now is that the Court has sent the files to the National Archives, and the Archives is working to make them publicly available within the next few weeks.

That means we’ll soon be able to listen to opinion summaries for birthright citizenship, racial gerrymandering, tariffs, the firings of administration officials, campaign finance and more — plus several dissents from the bench, most notably Justice Sotomayor’s in Mullin v. Al Otro Lado and Trump v. Slaughter, Justice Kagan’s in Louisiana v. Callais and Justice Jackson’s in Chiles v. Salazar.

We’ll post an update here as soon as we learn more.
