FTC Reacts to SCOTUS's Denial of Same-Day Audio in Abortion, Immigration Cases

Following the Supreme Court’s denial today of Fix the Court’s request to grant same-day audio in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt and U.S. v. Texas,  FTC executive director Gabe Roth released the following statement:

The cases for which we requested expedited audio – on abortion and immigration – will impact millions of Americans regardless of ideology or where in the country they live, so I’m disappointed that the court denied our request.

While the work of the other two branches begins with a presumption of transparency, only the Supreme Court shields its day-to-day work from the vast majority of the public, further demonstrating how out of touch with modernity the Roberts Court is.

Simply put, the audio recordings of the justices grappling with questions of national importance should not be treated like they’re part of a Friday afternoon news dump.
