Where's Last Term's Opinion Announcement Audio?
We’re talking about the audio files of the opinion announcement summaries that the justices read from the bench — and that the Supreme Court records but doesn’t livestream.
We think the files should be livestreamed, of course — see Kit Beyer’s op-ed here — and so do the reporters who cover the Court; see their letter here. But they’re not, so we’d like to find and post them.
We know that the Supreme Court doesn’t post the files themselves on SupremeCourt.gov.
Instead, they send them each year to the National Archives in late summer or early fall, with the Archives typically making them public in early October.
So far, the National Archives hasn’t posted it.
Oyez, a multimedia SCOTUS archive that in years past has posted announcement audio, doesn’t appear to have them either.
So, what gives?
We’re looking into it and will report back if and when we have updates.
