FTC Sends Letter to Senate Judiciary Calling for Legislation on Smithsonian Removal
Following up on our press release earlier this week on the topic, Fix the Court executive director Gabe Roth today sent a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee calling on them to remove Chief Justice Roberts from the Smithsonian’s Board of Regents.
“There is no need for a public official who, by virtue of his primary office, is required to be above the political fray to serve on the Board,” Roth writes.
This letter comes as the Smithsonian, along with so many cultural institutions, are being thrust into the partisan battles of the day. That said, the Smithsonian has to a large extent always been involved in politics in one way or another, as Roth writes.
Roberts’ appointment to the Board is thanks to a federal law that would have to be amended, which FTC hopes will find bipartisan support.
