The Public Deserves Greater Access to High-Profile Federal Court Cases

Today Fix the Court filed a motion to intervene in 25-951, Abrego Garcia v. Noem (full docket here) in the U.S. District Court for the District of  Maryland.

The case, about a 29 year old from El Salvador who was deported in March, has garnered national attention, but despite the heightened interest, not a single one of the hearings in the case has been livestreamed outside the courtroom.

We’re intervening to push for greater public access for future hearings: call-in number, live audio or video via YouTube, you name it.

We’re also arguing that all filings in the case should be unsealed, since the states secret privilege the government is asserted here is inapt.

This is the first time we’ve filed a motion like this, and we want to thank our attorneys at Public Justice and Correia & Puth for filing on our behalf.
