FTC to Release "State of State Supreme Court Disclosures" Report on March 14
Will host virtual event; release timed to coincide with Sunshine Week
Fix the Court will release a new report analyzing the state of financial disclosure in each of the 50 state supreme courts on the morning of Thursday, March 14. (Quick preview: the disclosures are not easy to obtain and are often short on detail.)
That afternoon, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. ET, FTC and several guests will host a call for interested members of the press and transparency groups to talk about the challenges of obtaining the reports, what the reports tell us about jurists’ conflicts of interest and how the disclosure process can be improved — both in terms of accessing them (too many states don’t post reports online) and expanding on the often scant content (so scant, they make the federal judiciary’s reports look good).
The event will occur during Sunshine Week, the annual weeklong celebration-slash-critique of the state of open government.
