House Judiciary Holds Hearing on H.R. 1, Which Includes Our Provision on SCOTUS Ethics
Ahead of today’s hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on H.R. 1, which will include testimony from the Project on Government Oversight on the Supreme Court ethics provision in the bill, Fix the Court is releasing a fact sheet that describes the reasoning behind the measure and (hopefully) answers any questions you may have (or don’t have since you’ve seen the language before).
Also, here’s a quote on the hearing attributable to FTC executive director Gabe Roth:
“It’s malpractice for Supreme Court justices to be exempt from the federal judiciary’s code of conduct, and they know it. This omission is something that Republicans and Democrats alike recognized as injudicious in the last Congress, and I’m pleased that lawmakers have already introduced a measure in the new session to improve high court ethics rules.”
