Justice Department Releases First Batch of Kavanaugh Documents From Our (Other) FOIA Lawsuit
Pursuant to Fix the Court’s FOIA lawsuit against the Department of Justice for failure to produce the Kavanaugh documents we requested last year in a timely manner, the agency today finally released its first batch of documents – 230 pages worth – that comprise e-mails the SCOTUS nominee sent or received from DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel.
We were expecting more than 230 pages today, but of the 404 pages the agency said they processed, they decided to withhold 174 pages in full. Those released were heavily redacted.
In all, we expect there to be about 1,800 responsive pages from Kavanaugh’s OLC files and that the agency will produce them at a rate of 400 pages every other week through Sept. 14.
