Judiciary Working Group on Harassment Releases Its Findings

Statement from Fix the Court executive director Gabe Roth on the release of the judiciary’s workplace conduct report:

The judiciary should be commended for taking its charge to improve workplace conduct seriously, even as the other branches, with similar issues, have yet to make meaningful changes to root out harassment.

The working group should also be praised for ultimately seeking out a diverse set of voices, including past and current law clerks, whose perspectives on improving in-chambers protocols are reflected in the report.

That said, codifying anti-harassment proposals in an updated judicial misconduct law would better ensure the judiciary’s efforts here remain long past our memory of the Kozinski scandal, and I’m hopeful that Director Duff and his working group will consider that as a next step.
