Why Liberals and Conservatives Should Support Term Limits for Supreme Court Justices

Last year, we wrote an op-ed for Townhall.com titled, “Conservatives Should Support Supreme Court Term Limits.”

Last week, we published one, co-written by Prof. Eric Segall of Georgia State College of Law, on why liberals should also support the policy.

While the last serious federal proposal aimed at limiting the justices’ tenure was introduced in 1954, we know a number of GOP House and Senate members will be introducing congressional term limits bills in the next Congress, and we think Democrats should join in the drafting process – and should make their support conditioned on the inclusion of a clause to end to life tenure at the Supreme Court.
