Pa. Chief Justice Recuses from Case on Retirement Age

This fall Pennsylvania will have a referendum on whether to raise their judges’ retirement age from 70 to 75.

A case on how the ballot measure was worded ended up in court, and Pa. Chief Justice Thomas Saylor, who is months away from turning 70, recused himself from the case, which turned out 3-3.

Our thought: if only the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court, who serve into their 80s and too often fail to recuse when their impartiality may be questioned, followed this example.
