Doomed to Fail: The Story Behind the Cameras-in-Courts Pilot
Writing in the National Law Journal, FTC executive director Gabe Roth discusses the reasons the recent cameras-in-federal-courts pilot program failed – namely that it tested only one variety of broadcast media, that it was limited to trial courts and that it was opt-in (and not required) in certain courtrooms.
“Until Chief Justice John Roberts,” Roth concludes, “understands how increased transparency works hand-in-hand with the rule of law, any pilot program designed by the neo-Luddites who currently make up the [federal judiciary] will crash and burn. And that’s a shame.”
