FTC Commends House Bill Aimed at Increasing Court Transparency

Fix the Court executive director Gabe Roth released this statement following the introduction of new legislation in the U.S. House that would increase access, accountability and transparency in every branch of government:

I commend Reps. Quigley, Speier and Sinema for introducing the Transparency in Government Act, which echoes Fix the Court’s calls for live broadcast coverage of Supreme Court hearings and online financial disclosures from the justices.

I’m pleased that these members are activating their constitutional authority to effect critical institutional changes at our nation’s most powerful, least accountable branch. As the issue of transparency in government belongs to neither party, I’m hopeful Republicans and Democrats join together in this effort to improve openness at our nation’s highest court.
