Justice Elena Kagan was born in Manhattan on April 28, 1960.  She received her undergraduate degree from Princeton and law degree from Harvard and then clerked for Judge Abner Mikva of the D.C. Circuit and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. She was a law professor at the University of Chicago and Harvard and worked in the Clinton and Obama administrations. She was also dean of Harvard Law School. President Obama nominated her to the Supreme Court, and she took her seat on August 7, 2010.
