Justice Stephen G. Breyer was born in San Francisco on August 15, 1938. He received his undergraduate degrees from Stanford and Oxford and law degree from Harvard. He worked in the Johnson administration, for the Senate Judiciary Committee and as a law professor at Harvard. President Carter appointed him to the First Circuit Court of Appeals. President Clinton nominated him to the Supreme Court, and he took his seat on August 3, 1994. He retired on June 30, 2022.
